Intro: Making Guelph home, one map at a time
How to deepen your sense of belonging with the place you call home
Uprootedness is a defining characteristic of modern life, and the antidote is belonging.
I believe that home is a habit and belonging can be a practice.
This newsletter will help you nurture and cultivate a deep sense of belonging with Guelph.
Twice a month, I will send you a walkable/bikeable map of
4 local restaurants or cafes to eat at/order takeout from
3 local business to shop at
2 local causes to support
1 (or more) local events or activities to participate in
The secret to cultivating a sense of belonging is to develop habits through which you merge the two geographies of belonging together:
The social geography of belonging, which includes the people and communities we share values, memories, traditions and histories with,
The physical geography of belonging, which includes objects and things we share space with.
These maps will take you through (physical) neighbourhoods, sidewalks and front-porches, giving you many opportunities to discover your (social) community, meet new people, forge new connections, and craft new memories, traditions, narratives, histories and habits with the place you call home.
